Update
The Louisiana Legislature has formally adjourned for 2011 and, thanks in part to the actions of concerned citizens, failed to garner the votes needed to increase the state tobacco excise tax rates. As a result, Louisiana’s cigarette and tobacco excise tax rates remain unchanged.
Adult tobacco users and business owners across the state are to be commended for their efforts and for speaking out in opposition against higher taxes that unfairly target adult tobacco consumers. Governor Jindal also played a significant role with his steadfast opposition to higher tobacco taxes.
