Tell Politicians in Albany: Cigarette Tax Increases and Coupon Bans Hurt Local Businesses
Politicians in Albany are considering a proposal that would
increase excise taxes on a can of dip by $1.96, with similar increases on moist
snuff, snus and cigars. If passed, a can of dip would be subject to a total of
$4.36 in state excise taxes alone.
On top of that, lawmakers are also considering an outright
ban on the use of coupons for cigarettes, dip, and other tobacco products as
well as all vapor products.
An unnecessary, unfair tax increase coupled with a tobacco
and vapor coupon ban could have a direct, negative impact on your business and
your bottom line. They would cause the
price of tobacco and vapor products to soar and could encourage many adult
smokers and vapers to turn to other sources to purchase their tobacco products,
driving sales down and jeopardizing local New York businesses like yours.
Your business employs New Yorkers
and contributes to our local and state economy. Tell your legislators to oppose
this unnecessary and unfair tax hike that would hurt local businesses.
